Shocking security lapse that endangered Modi’s life in Punjab

In a shocking lapse, endangering the life of India’s prime minister Narendra Modi, his cavalcade was blocked by protestors despite an advance notice given to the security agencies and police in Punjab today. 

Modi was to take a chopper to Hussainiwala but decided to go by road due to adverse weather conditions. Accordingly, necessary confirmation was done with with Punjab DGP. 

But 30 km from Hussainiwala, PM’s convoy found itself stranded on the road as the protestors had blocked the road. 

After about 20 minutes of this shocking held up, the PM’s convoy returned to Bathinda airport. 

Modi was due to originally visit the National Martyr’s Memorial in Punjab’s Hussainiwala,  by helicopter. 

The home ministry has termed it a major lapse in the security of the prime minister. It said the travel plan was communicated well in advance to the state government. The state government is required to ensure security, logistics and also make contingency plan in case of unexpected issues. 

The statement also mentioned that the Punjab government neglected too to deploy additional security to secure any movement on the road. 

The Home Ministry is seeking a detailed report from the Punjab government. The state government has also been asked to fix responsibility for the major lapse and take strict action against responsible persons. 

In a series of tweets, the BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda said it was worrying that the protestors were given access to the PM’s route.
