Rajnath Singh to do ‘Shastra Puja’ with forward troops on Dussehra

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will today (24 October) leave for West Bengal’s Sukna-based 33 Corps, a crucial Army formation that has the 17 (Gangtok), 27 (Kaliimpong) and 20 (Binnaguri) Mountain Divisions earmarked for the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China, reports Times of India.

During his visit, Singh will be reviewing the operational situation and military preparedness of the Indian Army in the northeast region. He will also be visiting Sherathang, Nathu La and other forward areas near LAC in Sikkim.

Singh will also perform ‘Shastra Puja’ along with the troops at one of these forward locations on the pious occasion of Dussehra.

In addition, Singh will also be reviewing the progress of some of the infrastructure projects being executed by Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under the ‘Project Swastik.’ The projects which will be reviewed include an alternative access route in Sikkim.

Singh’s visit to 33 Corps comes at a time when all the Indian Army formations and the Indian Air Force bases have been activated along the LAC to maintain a state of high alertness in the wake of China’s expansionist misadventures and military build-up.
