Rahul Gandhi embarrasses himself with a dumb question on twitter

In an address to the nation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Monday that the Centre has decided to buy 75 percent of jabs from vaccine makers, including 25 percent of the state quota, and give it for free to state governments, while private sector hospitals can continue to procure the remaining 25 percent.

However, Rahul Gandhi had a ‘simple’ and to some, quite irrational question to ask. Gandhi tweeted, “One simple question – If vaccines are free for all, why should private hospitals charge for them.” He used #FreeVaccineForAll hashtag with his tweet.

Social media users were quick to teach him with responses full of sarcasm. One of the users asked him, “If as per Right to Education (RTE) is free for all, why should private schools charge for them?”

Another twitterati asked: “If govt transport is free, why people owned private cars?”

Another one too had a go at Rahul Gandhi:

Your Govt in 2013 passed National Food Security Act, still Zomato and Swiggy aren’t providing free or subsidized Food to anyone. Why ?

One asked him on twitter that why private government hospitals charge for oxygen if it is freely available in the environment.

Rahul Gandhi missed the point that government-run vaccination centers are providing free covid-vaccines since the beginning and private makers, made it mode localized, helping in the expansion of the immunization drive. The procurement made by the private hospitals made the inoculations reach a wider public.

As an aside, asking questions on Twitter suits Rahul Gandhi for many reasons. For one, it is not designed to make him face tough questions. Second, he can freely ask dumb questions without any regrets.
