Meet Kalita, a housemaid, on BJP ticket in Bengal assembly polls

Kalita Majhi is a housemaid who would be contesting from Aushgram constituency in West Bengal assembly polls. Readers would recall a similar faceless candidate, Chandana Bauri, a daily-wage labourer’s wife, BJP has fielded and about whom NewsBred wrote this morning.

Kalita comes from a poor family and had to leave her studies in between due to financial constraints. Kalita, 32-year old is married to Subrata Majhi, who works as a plumber, and the couple has a son named Partha Majhi, who is in class 8. After marriage also, her economic situation has not seen much improvement and to meet her daily ends, she works as a domestic help in the area.

She has now applied for the leave for the households where she works as domestic help, so that she can concentrate on campaigning.

Majhi is an active member of the party, and had earlier contested the Panchayat elections.

For these elections, she said she understands the sufferings of the poor and wants to work for them. She added that if she wins, she will try her best to ensure that poor students get opportunity for education.
