Rabia Khan, mother of late actress Jiah Khan who died in suspicious circumstances five years ago, tore into filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt on Friday, calling him “pathetic.”
In a talking spree from India Today to Republic TV, Rabia Khan also didn’t pull punches against superstar Salman Khan and termed Mumbai Police as being hand in gloves with the mafia.
“He (Mahesh Bhatt) is so pathetic that I have no words to express. He was intimidating when my daughter worked for him at the age of 16,” said Rabia.
At her daughter’s funeral, Rabia said it was Bhatt who tried to convince her that Jiah Khan was depressed. When Rabia protested, she claims Bhatt had said: “Tum chup hojao varna tumhe bhi injection deke sula denge (Shut up or you too would be injected into sleep).”
Jiah was found hanging from her ceiling fan at her apartment on June 3, 2013. Sooraj Pancholi, son of actors Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, had been named in Jiah’s suicide note, Rabia claims. Yet he was granted bail. In 2018, a Mumbai court had charged Pancholi for instigating Jiah Khan into commit suicide. The case is still on.
Rabia claimed that Sooraj used to beat Jiah up. She also alleged that Salman Khan had used his influence to let Sooraj go scot free by the Mumbai Police.
“He (Sooraj) used to beat my daughter. The police were pressurized by the Bollywood mafia so much that a Bollywood icon (Salman Khan) said that don’t interrogate him, leave him alone, we are launching him. “
Rabia lamented: “I feel hopeless that police is supporting mafia and wrong people…people use money and power to tamper the investigation.”
Rabia saw similarity in the death of her daughter and Sushant Singh Rajput. She believed the industry was creating fake mental illness narrative, that Sushant was depressed and anxious. She said police are deliberately trying to destroy the evidence and make it look like a suicide.
Sushant’s death is being investigated by the CBI. Enforcement Directorate (ED) too is looking if he was swindled of his money.
