After a video surfaced from Kawardha in Chhattisgarh showing that a local Muslim mob had uprooted a saffron flag, Hindu youths mounted a new saffron flag at the same spot with an image of Ram bhakt Hanuman on it.
Two religious groups in Chattisgarh’s Kawardha district clashed with each other over the hoisting of the flag of their sect at Lohara Naka. A Hindu flag is always hoisted on the Chowk, however, the Muslim mob installed their religious flag as well. In the video, one person was seen climbing the pole, uprooting the Hindu flag, tearing and insulting it.
Hindu organisations protested against the Congress government in Kawardha following the clashes. The Kawardha district administration enforced Section 144 to douse the communal fire.
While the city turned has a fortress due to the heavy deployment of police, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupendra Baghel was missing, busy as he was in Uttar Pradesh to gain a mileage out of Lakhimpur Kheri violence.
