The Haryana Police have registered an FIR against dead labourer Lakhbir Singh, who was killed by Nihang Sikhs on the allegation that he had desecrated the holy book.
Virender Singh, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Law and Order, Sonipat, informed that the FIR was registered on a complaint by the head of Nihang Sikh group, Balwinder Singh, at Kundli police station on October 17.
It was the same day two Nihangs from Balwinder Singh’s group had surrendered to the police for their alleged involvement in the killing of Lakhbir Singh.
Lakhbir Singh has been booked under section 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code.
The FIR was registered by police against Lakhbir Singh after the Nihang Sikhs had threatened more violence if the case was not registered.
Meanwhile, Kharkhoda Assistant Superintendent of Police Mayank Gupta also informed that a SIT of the Haryana police was investigating the veracity of a purported video of Lahkbir Singh.
