Delhi govt-run hospital withdraws ‘Malayalam-only’ circular on nurses

Delhi government-run Govind Ballabh Pant Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research (GIPMER) has withdrawn its circular forbidding its nursing personnel from communicating in Malayalam after severe backlash on social media.

The hospital administration has stated that the circular was issued without their permission.

The hospital had previously clarified that nurses were allowed to speak to each other in Malayalam but must converse with patients in Hindi.

BJP leader Amit Malviya claimed that the Kejriwal government was now targeting Kerala nurses after doing the same with people from UP and Bihar.

The ruling Kerala party, CPI-M, is yet to comment on the matter.
