An RTI has revealed that Sonia Gandhi and the Congress party have not paid rent dues for the properties in Lutyens’ Delhi since 2013, running into crores.
The three properties in question are Bungalow No. 26 at Akbar Road (office of Congress’ Seva Dal), Bungalow no. c II/109 Chanakyapuri and 10, Janpath bungalow which is the resident of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.
Spread over 5,181 square metres in New Delhi, 10 Janpath has remained the private residence of Sonia Gandhi since the assassination of her husband Rajiv Gandhi in 1991. Just behind Sonia Gandhi’s residence is 24, Akbar Road which is the Congress headquarters.
However, 26 Akbar Road bungalow, a type VIII property next to Congress’ headquarters, the monthly rent is more than Rs 12 lakhs which hasn’t been cleared since December 2012.
