Congress to hire 5 lakhs for Social Media game against BJP





In an attempt to infuse vitality in the digital space, the Congress will have dedicated social media pages and five lakh social media members to counter the ruling BJP. The party plans to use social media platforms more effectively to convey its point of view in a bid to garner support. The exercise is aimed at countering the BJP’s IT Cell.

In an ambitious plan, the main opposition party now plans to identify and recruit five lakh members to spread its message. Simultaneously, the party wants to initiate a campaign to hire office-bearers and strengthen its volunteer force all over the country in all the districts.

Initially, the party will create a data bank of young persons Interested in joining it’s social media team. “After careful scrutiny of those interested, interviews will be conducted to complete the process,” according to a senior party leader associated with the social media team of the party.

The party has been encouraged by its mainly #SpeakUp campaigns with videos from top leaders. This has given it the hope that improving it’s digital footprint could help and its social media team needs to be strengthened. Incidentally, the party has not performed too well on this front in the past.

In the run-up to 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi had kick-started “Chowkidar Chor Hai” campaign. However, it was mauled by a counter-campaign which the BJP started as “Mein Bhi Chowkidar”.
