Bombs, bullets recovered in a Bengal district ahead of fifth phase

Ahead of the fifth phase of election in West Bengal, the police recovered bombs, bomb-making equipment, gunpowder and bullets in the Madral Joychanditala area of Bhatpara in North 24 Parganas district on Saturday.

As per reports, the police officials have registered a case under Explosive Substances Act and Arms Act.

The constituency will go under polls on April 22 with two more districts.

West Bengal has a history of violence during elections. Even before the beginning of the elections there were several reports of political violence including killing of several BJP workers.

All four phases were marred by incidents of poll-related violence, including attacks on candidates and a violent clash between security forces and locals which killed four. The BJP has accused Mamata Banerjee of instigating violence.

Union minister Amit Shah also slammed TMC chief Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of giving instigating speech that led to unfortunate violence in Cooch Behar where 4 people lost their lives. Violence triggered at the polling station in Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar in fourth phase after an 18-year old was shot dead allegedly by TMC goons.
