Calling upon all opposition parties to unite and fight against the controversial farm bills, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), to begin with, are looking for support from sworn rivals of their former allies Bharatiya Janata Party like Shiv Sena (Uddhav Thackeray) and Trinamool Congress (Mamata Banerjee).
“Just to make the central government realize about the farmers’ pain, we are reaching to all local and state-level parties to discuss the issue,” said SAD MP Prem Singh Chandumajra.
Akali Dal will send one delegation to meet Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray on December 6 and another delegation, lead by Chandumajra himself, to meet West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee a day before on December 5.
According to sources, one delegation is also set to meet President Ram Nath Kovind.
Talks that began on Thursday between Indian government ministers and farmers’ leaders have failed to break the deadlock in a dispute over three Farm Acts passed earlier this year. Another round of discussions will be held on December 5 in a bid to forge a resolution.
