Why was Suresh Raina left unsold in IPL auctions?

Why was IPL legend Suresh Raina unsold in auctions and not picked even by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) whom he had served with such distinction?

As per CSK CEO Kasi Viswanath, it all came down to team composition which the team wanted and the left-hander didn’t seem to fit into it.

“Raina has been one of the most consistent performers for CSK for the last 12 years. Of course, it was very difficult for us, not to have Raina but at the same time, you should also understand that the team composition depends on the form and kind of team which any team would like to have”, he said.

CSK meanwhile splurged Rs 14 crores on their medium-pacer Deepak Chahar.

Raina is the fourth highest run-getter in IPL history with 5,528 runs from 205 games, including 4,687 runs for CSK. He represented CSK from 2008 to 2015 and then from 2018 to 2021.

Chennai Super Kings also bought back the likes of Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo and Robin Uthappa for Rs 6.75 crore, Rs 4.40 crore and Rs 2 crore, respectively.
