3 children die due to wrong drug prescribed in Mohalla Clinic, run by AAP

Three children in Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital in Delhi have allegedly lost their lives due to the sheer negligence of the doctor of a mohalla clinic which are run by the Aam Aadmi Party.

Sharing the details of the incident, Bharatiya Janata Party IT cell head Amit Malaviya shared a report by central government which revealed that the mohalla clinic doctor has prescribed and administered Dextromethorphan drug — a cough suppressant — to  the children below four years of age after which they fell seriously ill and were admitted to Kalawati Saran Children’s hospital. Among 16 admitted children, three died.

It is pertinent to note that, as per a senior paediatrician, “This drug is a centrally acting cough suppressant. It causes side-effects such as sedation and, therefore, it is not given to children. It needs detailed investigation and appropriate action.”

Taking strict action, the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Union health ministry has asked the Delhi government to send a notification to all dispensaries and mohalla clinics to stop the prescription of the drug to children who are less than four years of age.
