Shiv Sena MLA jailed for six months: 2018 Aurangabad riots





A Shiv Sena MLA from Aurangabad Central Constituency, Pradeep Jaiswal, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment and a Rs 2,500 fine in connection with the communal riots that rocked the city in May, 2018, says a report

Jaiswal was accused of vandalising the Kranti police station and browbeating the on-duty police officers to release the arrested youth accused of fomenting violence. Jaiswal was accompanied by 8-10 activists who then went to vandalise the police station. 

Police, in response, booked Jaiswal under Section 332, 353, 504 and 506 of the IPC. 

In that particular riots in 2018, two persons had died and some 50 were injured, including a dozen policemen. More than 100 shops and vehicles were torched by the rioters. 

The riots were triggered when an illegal water connection, at a place of worship, was removed.
